Bursa
The city of Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, has many historical buildings. This city, one of the most beautiful cities in Turkey, has managed to enter the UNESCO World Heritage list with its historical and unique beauties. Apart from its mosques and historical buildings, the city has wonderful nature. For this reason, the city is called “Green Bursa”. Yeşil Camii (Green Mosque): The Yeşil Camii, also known as the Green Mosque, is an iconic mosque located in Bursa. It was built between 1419 and 1421 during the Ottoman period by Sultan Mehmed I. The mosque’s name derives from the exquisite green-blue tiles adorning its interior walls. These beautiful tiles, along with its intricate calligraphy and woodwork, make it a stunning example of early Ottoman architecture. The mosque is still in use today and remains an important religious and historical site in Bursa. Yeşil Türbe (Green Mausoleum): Adjacent to the Green Mosque is the Yeşil Türbe, or Green Mausoleum. It is the final resting place of Sultan Mehmed I, who commissioned the construction of the Green Mosque. Completed in 1421, the mausoleum features a hexagonal structure adorned with green-blue tiles similar to those found in the mosque. The interior of the tomb is beautifully decorated with intricate calligraphy and floral patterns, showcasing the fine craftsmanship of the era. Inkaya Plane Tree: The Inkaya Plane Tree is a famous natural landmark located on the outskirts of Bursa. Estimated to be over 600 years old, it is an enormous plane tree with a massive trunk and sprawling branches that provide ample shade. The tree is considered a symbol of the city and has become a popular tourist attraction. Visitors often gather around the Inkaya Plane Tree to relax, have a picnic, or simply marvel at its grandeur. The tree has witnessed centuries of history and has become an integral part of Bursa’s cultural landscape. These three landmarks, the Yeşil Camii, Yeşil Türbe, and Inkaya Plane Tree, offer visitors a glimpse into Bursa’s rich historical and architectural heritage. They are significant symbols of the city’s past and continue to be admired by locals and tourists alike.
